This depends on your family’s madhab: most people follow one for life. Most Indian Sunni Muslims follow the Hanafi school; many in Kerala and coastal Karnataka follow the Shafi’i school. Shia families should select Ja’fari (Twelver). Simply select your madhab during setup and the engine applies its documented mainstream rules. If you’re genuinely unsure, start with Hanafi, the most widely followed in India.

Yes. All PII is encrypted with AES-256-GCM under a key unique to your account. Passwords use bcrypt at cost 12. Data in transit is protected by TLS 1.3. We maintain a tamper-evident audit trail with hash-chaining. Optional TOTP-based 2FA adds another layer. We comply with the Indian IT Act, 2000 and DPDPA 2023 principles, and we never sell personal data to third parties.

Our documents are formatted in accordance with the Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Application Act, 1937, and include proper Islamic preamble (bismillah, shahada), witness attestation blocks, and state-specific legal language, but Wasiyat does not guarantee legal validity or enforceability. Under Muslim personal law, a wasiyyah does not require registration or witnesses to be valid (this does not apply if you married under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, which requires two attesting witnesses), though we still recommend attestation by two adult witnesses for evidentiary strength. For immovable property, we recommend optional notarization and registration. State Execution Packs include specific guidance for all Indian states and union territories.

After cancellation, your account remains in read-only mode for 90 days. During this period, you can export all documents and data in PDF and JSON formats. After 90 days, all data is permanently deleted via cryptographic erasure: your encryption key is destroyed, making recovery impossible. You can request immediate deletion at any time.

The Vault Family plan includes one annual scholar consultation, with qualified scholars specialising in ilm al-fara’id (the science of inheritance). For other plans, consultations can be arranged separately. Scholars can advise on complex scenarios like the ‘grandfather vs. brothers’ problem, musharakah cases, or multi-doctrine families.

Hibah is a lifetime gift under Islamic law. Unlike Wasiyyah (a bequest that takes effect after death), a Hibah is given and accepted during the donor's lifetime. Crucially, it is not subject to the one-third estate cap that governs Wasiyyah, and it can be made to anyone, including non-heirs, friends, or charitable organisations. The Vault plan includes a dedicated Hibah module where you can record and document each gift with its type, value, recipient, and doctrine-specific validity rules (for example, Hanafi permits revocable Hibah, while Shafi'i and Maliki schools require delivery to the recipient for the gift to be fully valid).

A Waqf is a permanent charitable endowment in Islamic law. When you create a Waqf, you permanently dedicate an asset (land, property, or a financial sum) for a specified charitable purpose. The principal can never be sold or consumed; only the income generated is distributed to beneficiaries. Common purposes include mosques, madrasas, hospitals, schools, and family Waqfs. Wasiyat is the first Indian estate planning platform to offer a digital Waqf module, allowing you to specify the asset, purpose, trustees, beneficiaries, and income distribution within your estate plan. When a testator passes away, their appointed executor logs into their dedicated executor portal and files a death claim by uploading the death certificate and any supporting documents. This triggers a notification to the Wasiyat admin team for verification. Once the claim is approved, the vault is automatically unlocked: the executor gains full document access, all named beneficiaries receive their personalised portal links via email and WhatsApp, and any scheduled Video Wasiyat messages are delivered. The entire flow is logged with a tamper-evident audit trail. This means your family is never left searching for documents: everything is delivered securely and automatically at the right time.
