2. How We Use Your Data
2.1 Inheritance Calculations
Your family and financial data are processed by our deterministic calculation engine to compute Islamic inheritance shares according to your selected doctrine. These calculations are performed entirely on our servers using rule-based algorithms and do not involve AI processing.
2.2 AI Advisory — ORIS
ORIS (Our Reasoning and Insight System) is our AI advisory feature powered by Anthropic Claude. When you use ORIS features (chat, scenario analysis, document drafting), your data is sent to Anthropic's API with the following safeguards:
- PII redaction: Personally identifiable information (names, addresses, phone numbers, account numbers) is redacted before data is sent to Anthropic
- Purpose limitation: Data sent to Anthropic is used solely for generating advisory responses and is not used to train AI models
- No data retention by Anthropic: Anthropic does not retain your data beyond the duration of the API request as per our data processing agreement
2.3 Document Generation
We use your family, financial, and bequest data to generate estate planning documents including inheritance summaries, will drafts, and distribution reports.
2.4 Communication
We use your contact information to send transactional emails (via SendGrid), OTP verification messages (via MSG91), subscription notifications, and, with your consent, marketing communications.
2.5 Payment Processing
Subscription payments are processed through Razorpay. We do not store your full payment card details on our servers. Razorpay handles payment data in accordance with PCI-DSS standards.
3. Data Storage & Security
We implement robust security measures to protect your data:
- Database: User data is stored in MySQL 8.x with encryption at rest and in transit (TLS 1.2+)
- Vault encryption: All vault items (documents, notes, wills) are encrypted using AES-256-GCM before storage. Encryption keys are managed securely and are never stored alongside the encrypted data
- Session management: User sessions are managed via Redis with secure, httpOnly cookies and configurable expiry
- Document storage: Uploaded documents are stored in AWS S3 with server-side encryption (SSE-S3) and access restricted via signed URLs with limited time-to-live
- Access controls: Role-based access controls ensure that only authorized personnel can access production systems
- Monitoring: We continuously monitor for unauthorized access attempts and security anomalies
